Pontypridd town centre and bus station

A transformed town centre and transport hub

We’re all about helping communities and their people flourish. And making better connections between the towns and cities in which we work.

So when Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council commissioned us to upgrade the Pontypridd town centre and bus station, we got straight to work.

It creates a far more attractive environment for shoppers and visitors to the town, and enhances the town’s distinctiveness.

The town centre project involved upgrading the streets and spaces with high quality paving, furniture, lighting, public art, and sustainable drainage.

The Bus Station Enhancement scheme, designed in 2002 and completed over 18 months, involved increasing capacity from six to 12 bus stands. Other upgrades included:

  • Building a canopy-style shelter across the pedestrian route
  • Bus border kerbs to aid disabled access
  • New café
  • Supervised ticket and information kiosk
  • Toilets with a RADAR key system for 24-hour disabled access

The former bus station was in poor condition with limited capacity. [It was a challenge] to give the bus station a unique identity all within the existing restricted site.
