In the Community

Redstart is part of the fabric that binds together over 500,000 people in Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and Rhondda Cynon Taf. We exist to help individuals and communities flourish and forge connections across the whole of Wales and beyond.

YOU CAN’T BYPASS SAFETY

During the Church Village Bypass project, we gave safety talks, ran site visits, and supported construction-based school initiatives for over 10,000. We also gave site tours and presentations to students from national and local universities. And through our partnership with the local ICE graduate group, we gave a series of lectures based on the history, feasibility, planning, design, and construction of the Church Village Bypass at Cardiff University.

BUILDING BRIDGES WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS

Our Cardiff office supported the Ice Bridge initiative by providing ambassadors to help build bridges at local schools, along with an introduction to engineering. Sponsored by the Abertillery Community First Partnership, we took the bridge to Abertillery Comprehensive School so they and their feeder schools could build the bridge.

GIVING A DERELICT POND, LIFE

Some saw a neglected, vandalised pond at Ty Isaf Primary School. We saw an opportunity to help turn it into a vibrant, useful outdoor learning area. Over a weekend, 12 of our staff volunteered to get stuck in and help. The team dug up all the old waste from the pond, replaced the pond liner, and created new paths. They laid five tons of chippings and moved approximately ten tons of soil in the process. Trees were planted in collaboration with the contractor including in Efail Isaf to enhance the village.

PRIMARY SCHOOL CLEAN-UP

Fourteen members of staff gave up their Saturday to help a local primary school clean up its main entrance. The exterior leading up to the school was tired and overgrown, so the team worked all day power-washing, pruning and patching, and also laying a stone plaque in the flowerbed.

OTHER EVENTS AND FUNDRAISING

Thanks to our close links with the Wales Millennium Centre, we’ve organised various Arts & Engineering events in recent years. The events aim to give pupils in years 9 and 10 an insight into the world of engineering and art. Our staff regularly take part in fundraising events for local and national charities close to their hearts. Think 3 Peaks Challenge, marathons, and bike rides.

10,000 We’ve given safety talks, run site visits, and supported construction-based school initiatives for over 10,000 people.
